THE LAST DAY 18/12/15

The last day was attended by very few at the colliery gates. In the morning there was myself and one other to record the pit, though the place was rammed with press inside. I decided to get on site to record a stunning sunr ise on the last day of production made better by the amount of sand in the atmosphere blowing over from from Saudi. I returned in the afternoon and afew more were there but numbers were still only 6 of us. I guess the inevitable had hit home locally and that there was no more to be said... there wasn't really, this was it... it wwas all over! One guy driving out used his car park pass for the last time and flicked it on the road saying 'Won't be needing that again'... really summed up the day in one act.
I think locals and the guys were saving their angst, sadness and comment for te parade at Knottingley the following day....
